The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) encountered another setback in their quest to secure a foreign coach for the men’s cricket team as former West Indies captain Darren Sammy turned down the offer for the coveted position.

Sammy, who also assumes the role of head coach for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi, opted out due to his existing contractual obligations with the West Indies board. He currently serves as the head coach for the side’s one-day internationals (ODIs) and T20Is.

This development follows PCB’s earlier thwarted attempt to enlist former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson as the national team’s head coach. Watson, who also coaches Quetta Gladiators, departed after declining the offer extended by the PCB during discussions held in Karachi amidst the ongoing PSL.

Sources familiar with the situation disclosed that Watson initially expressed interest and outlined his terms for acceptance. However, despite a reported offer of $2 million, Watson ultimately declined due to the premature disclosure of details concerning the PCB’s proposed package to the media.
